■ Partnerships
In addition to our internal research, development and clinical activities, MBRI is actively pursuing collaborations with leading companies, institutes, and academic institutions in the fields of pharmaceutics, biotechnology, biochemical engineering and medicinal chemistry.

Development and Commercialization

MBRI has been operating in particular position between academia and industries. The successful collaboration is a key feature of MBRI' strategy for commercializing our product candidates and technologies. To this end, MBRI seeks collaborations to advance the development and commercialization of our own product candidates. Green Cross is one of our principal corporate collaborations.

Research Collaborations

To maximize the value of proprietary technologies and knowledge, MBRI seeks strategic partnerships. MBRI has formed a range of partnerships to access therapeutic targets, candidates, and innovative technologies. These partnerships have been with companies, research institutes and universities.

WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and
Development of Vaccines and Diagnostic Reagents

Since MBRI was designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Development of Vaccines and Diagnostic Reagents in 1989, MBRI has made continuous efforts on research and development in order to fight against emerging infectious diseases along with WHO as a WHO Collaborating Centre. The terms of reference for the Centre are;
• To participate in collaborative studies with WHO on the research and development of new vaccines and diagnostic reagents,
• To provide consulting services on the development and quality control of vaccine and diagnostic reagents,
• To provide training for fellow who are developing vaccines and diagnostic reagents,
• To provide reference for vaccines and diagnostic reagents, and
• To collect and disseminate information on the development of vaccines and
diagnostic reagents.
Currently MBRI is extending its efforts from conventional type prophylactic vaccines to therapeutic vaccines including DNA vaccine and CTL based immunotherapeutic for hepatitis C. In the field of developing diagnostic reagents, MBRI has succeeded in developing the SARS-CoV-specific RNA detection kit using real-time RT-PCR technology. Since no licensed drug or vaccine is currently available to treat SARS, it is exceedingly important to develop new technologies that will allow for the rapid and simple diagnosis of SARS, in order to curtail the spread of the virus. With other available technologies such as lab-on-a-chip as well as the established real-time RT-PCR technique, MBRI is now in the process of developing molecular diagnostic technologies against life-threatening diseases such as HIV and hepatitis. We firmly believe that these diagnostics will play crucial roles in monitoring the safety of blood supplies, in the near future, will be further applied to the other fields such as veterinary, forensic, military and food science. More detail information about our recent activities as a WHO Collaborating Centre are available from the following documents.
